draft

there are things that hurt to look at
like the sun, or a baby, or a pretty girl kissing somebody else
there are songs that we don’t listen to
because we know that they are true
and we think that we are the only people in the world they were written for
when a skinny English boy sings into your chest and his words come leaking out your eyes
you want to wrap those words up in a blanket
and put them in a shoebox
when it gets dark, you can lift the lid and look in on them fondly
i found a song and i put it on loop
i’m hoping that if i listen to it enough times it will become familiar to me
like a hospital blanket
thin and scratchy
and i’ll stop feeling it
but i know how pretty things work
and i know it never happens

i think typography is a lot like math

it can be easier, faster, and better-looking when you use a computer, but if you do it by hand, you learn more, and if you do it enough times manually, you become better at it across all mediums

also because they both make me totally crazy when i can't get them right

which is most of the time

coolin'

poor old johnnie ray

this person's youtube channel has a lot of really cool 1950s/1960s rock & roll. there's the cool mainstream stuff like johnnie ray and eddie cochran, but then there are also things like peruvian rockers los zodiac, a french-canadian version of "in the still of the night"(?!), and of course the magic of los teen tops. it's like the united nations if the united nations were a swingin' soda fountain in 1964.

i feel like the production values for this video are a lot higher than they need to be, in a good way. where did that crane shot come from?

i'm an alligator

i'm a mama papa comin' for you

i have no idea what he means by that, but when i hear him sing it, i'm like, "yeah, alright!"

i like heavy metal typography a lot more than heavy metal music but i think they complement each other pretty well.

most of the time i don't really know what i'm talking about.
